Privacy notice
This site collects personal data in one place only: the enquiry form. This notice says what happens to it.
Last updated 29 August 2026. This notice was written by the person who runs the site, not by a solicitor. It is an honest description of what the site does rather than a reviewed legal document.
Who is responsible
Ailbhe, an RSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI registration 41102), trading as Driving Instructor Dún Laoghaire. You can reach her at hello@drivinginstructordunlaoghaire.ie or on 085 266 0637.
What is collected, and why
When you send an enquiry, the form collects:
- Your name, email address and phone number — so your enquiry can be answered.
- What you are asking about: the type of lesson, manual or automatic, your area, whether you have passed the theory test, and anything you write in the message box.
- The language you were reading the site in, the page you first arrived on, and — if you came here from one of my theory-test guides — which guide sent you. This is so it is possible to tell which pages and languages are actually useful to people.
Nothing else. There is no account to create, no newsletter, and your details are not sold, rented or shared for anyone else's marketing.
Where it goes
Two places, and it is worth being specific about the second:
- A database (MongoDB Atlas), which is where enquiries are stored and worked through.
- A WhatsApp message to Ailbhe's phone, sent automatically when you submit the form so that a new enquiry is not missed. That message contains your name, phone number, email and what you asked about. WhatsApp is operated by Meta; its own terms apply to the message once it arrives.
The site is hosted by Render, and pages are served through Cloudflare. Both process the ordinary technical information any website receives — your IP address and browser type — in order to serve the page and block abuse.
One more place, for completeness: if the spam filter rejects a submission, the server log records the name and email address that were submitted, so that a genuine enquiry wrongly blocked can be found and answered. Those logs are held by Render.
Cookies
This site sets one cookie of its own, called dl_landing. It records the first page of this site you arrived on — nothing else. It holds no identifier, no name, nothing that distinguishes you from anyone else who arrived on the same page, and it is never sent to another site. It is used to tell which pages actually bring people here, and it expires after 30 days.
If Google Analytics is enabled, the site loads it — not immediately, but on your first interaction with the page, or about five seconds after the page settles, whichever comes first. It sets its own cookies. If Cloudflare Web Analytics is enabled instead, the site loads that beacon; it sets no cookies.
How long it is kept
Enquiries are kept until they are no longer needed. There is currently no automatic deletion: an enquiry stays in the database until someone removes it. A fixed retention period has not been set yet, and this notice will state it once it has. You can ask for yours to be deleted at any time and it will be — see below.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask for a copy of what is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Email hello@drivinginstructordunlaoghaire.ie and it will be dealt with within one month.
If you are not satisfied with the response, you can complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission at dataprotection.ie.
